Befrienders
From time to time you may recognize that perhaps, for whatever reason, your social circle is getting smaller. Maybe you have moved to a new area or a medical condition prevents you from socializing on your own terms. Feelings of loneliness and isolation can have a terrible impact on a persons wellbeing and we in Carrigaline Family Support Centre try to do what we can to support our local residents.
Befrienders are a group of volunteers, suitably vetted and trained, who provide regular visits or phone calls to our older residents in the community. A referral for this service can come from a family member, an individual themselves, a public health nurse, many different streams. Once received, an assessment will be conducted by the Centre and a suitable pair of volunteers will be identified and introduced to the client.
The idea is simple, friendship. Someone to call to you on a weekly basis, perhaps you like to play a game of cards or maybe you enjoy talking about sports, whatever it is, we can find a volunteer to help brighten your week.
Befrienders don’t do home help tasks of any kind, nor will they give you advice, they are there to listen and chat with you and are always open to sharing a cuppa!
If this is a service you would like to avail of, please call the Centre on 021 491 9299.
